Topic 2 - Three Learning Theories: Constructivism, Behaviourism, Cognitivism
In this week, we constructed a mind map of three learning theories using Mindmeister to explain the definition, examples of each theory, influences on the use of technology in education, and our individual reflections through making this mindmap.

Cedric:
Mindmap is an ideal tool to let us organize those different concepts. And we may find out the connections from these concepts to construct our own understanding. This mind map tool has the functions like website linking, photo attachment. It means that can build up or organize our own knowledge in different ways, such as knowledge visualization. But in fact, like this application Mindmeister, it is not easy to get a whole picture of the whole map. It will be a barrier to find the note or to connect the concepts.
Matthew:
Yes, this is indeed an application of the learning theory of cognitivism, in that mind maps are used to link/organize our knowledge of the learning theories.
Sharon:
First, this e-learning tool is quite easy to use and very convenient to collaborate with my peers on building our knowledge of the learning theories together. Everyone can easily assess this mind map via a web link and contribute their ideas and understanding of the learning theories and share together. Second, using a mind map to present our understanding of the 3 learning theories to a certain extent forces us to filter the information content of the theories and give a precise description on each theory. Before writing down my understanding of each theory, I need to read related information content of each theory and I learn about the instructional strategies and techniques of the learning theories for facilitating learning in the process. Yet, it is quite difficult to view the whole picture of the map.
Arti:
This mind map activity helped build my knowledge of the three learning theories as they were applied in the designing of this mind map. Behaviorism – If we did not complete this mind map there would be a consequence. Cognitivism – The mind map enabled us to link and organize our ideas of the learning theories in a systematic manner. Constructivism – We were given a framework, in which we were to explore the three learning theories and construct our own knowledge in a cooperative learning group.
Stella:
Owing to the making of this mind map, it gives a clear stream of thoughts for everyone to understand the three theories and these examples are beneficial for us to think how to use the three theories in real teaching because we search some experiments for these three theories respectively to make sure that we can have a better understanding of these three theories. But I think mind map is not suitable to write too many things on it. It's beneficial for users to list an outline to express their thoughts.

There are lots of details but may be too many? I think it will be better to clarify a definition with only one explanation.Yet I like your color schemes very much!
ReplyDeleteYep, I agree with Sharon that most mind map tools are not so convenient to view the whole picture. and sometimes they do not have the function to export the map into pdf or jpg, which causes problems. But barnstorming on mind map is really a good way to deep our understanding and build relationship between concepts.Your content in the map is rich and I have a better view for three learning theories. Thanks a lot!

ReplyDeleteThe framework of this mind map is logical and clear. Besides, it has a detailed explanation of each part !
ReplyDeletewell-organised,I love the reflection part, bracause it is not only the group view, but also the individual reflection.
ReplyDeleteDetailed and with enough information. Really a good job. And maybe you can overstike or highlight the important words in the long long explaination~ Haha
ReplyDeleteI think your mindmap is well structured and clear. The contents are in detail and the design is good as well! You may as well change the white background into yellow to make it look more consistent~
ReplyDeleteYour group have done a very good job of making the mind map colorful! Each group member puts your own reflections below the map, I love it!
ReplyDeleteThe mind map of your group is quite organized, clear interpreted and highlighting with different colors, which is very reader-oriented. Besides, reflections from all your group members are quite comprehensive and also give us a good description of the understanding of these three learning theories. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI think there are too many info which to make the reader a bit confuse. But Nice work overall !
ReplyDeleteYour group did a very good job to construct the mindmap in a systematically way. And you have inculded so many info related to different terms. Very Well DONE!!
ReplyDeleteYour mind map was very colourful and organized the information about the learning theories clearly. You gave good examples to demonstrate each of the learning theories. I think that by allowing cooperative learning, you are using the constructivist theory. Students can discuss with each other and learn from one another. They are continuously constructing and reconstructing what they have learned with each other.
ReplyDeleteThe mind map shows us the three basic concepts, especially the examples, through which I can better understand and use the three theories in the future. And the reflection shows your group members' hard-working.
ReplyDeleteThe structure of your mindmap is very clear. However, as other classmates have mentioned, the details might be too much. How about abstracting them into several key words or short sentences? I think that will make your work easy to review.
ReplyDeleteThe mind map show more detail of concepts, especially the examples of the case. The content was powerful to learners understand content. Overall, the mind map was easy to understand.
ReplyDeleteYour group's mindmap is well-structured with lots of informations and details, which are helpful to me to deeper understanding the three theories. Maybe highlighting some keywords in a long paragraph can make your mindmap more clear.
ReplyDeleteThe mindmap is colorful and the structure is well-constructed in a comprehensive way, contained with lots of information and examples that give me a much more in-depth knowledge in the three theories. However, some paragraphs are rather long so it would be better if they could be sum up in a simple way!
