Sharon's Comments on Posts in E-portfolios of Other Groups

Topic 1/Introduction of an e-learning tool:

@Group 5
First, I like group 5's presentation is the table presenting the advantages and disadvantages of using Google Classroom. By putting them side-to-side, I think it is very clear and organised for comparison. Also, I think it is great to include parents' perspectives in the use of Google Classroom. Often in users' review found online or researches reviewing the use of Google Classroom perhaps only include teachers and students' comments/feedback on this learning management system (LMS). Since some members in group 5 are school teachers and they are able to collect first-hand feedback from parents in their school, it is really useful for the class (including myself) to learn about what parents think about the LMS as parents are one of the stakeholders needed to be considered as well when implementing a LMS in the school.

@Group 1
This is the first time I heard about this video creation tool and thanks for recommending! I particularly like the 'suggestions' part. I think the suggestions are quite useful as they can also be applied in other video creation tools. Also, point 6 reminds me of a design principle for multimedia instruction that I read in an article - the design principle of segmenting; breaking complex concepts into understandable chunks helps to divide lesson into learner-paced parts. Good tips!

@Group 4
I like watching TED videos but I mostly watch them via YouTube. It is good that you have included some screenshots of the TED app showing the 'Download' and 'Favorites' features. With these two features, the app is quite handy for user to keep a to-watch list on their phone. It is also quite interesting for your group to compare TED with Bilibili. I have used Bilibili before and personally I think "Danmu" blocks the scene and disturbs the watching experience so I turn it off most of the time. But I do agree that the information presented via 'Danmu' is useful in helping viewers to understand the scene.

Topic 2/Creation of a mind-map on 3 learning theories:
@Group5
Personally I really like the colour choice of the mind-map. It is quite attractive, and the organization is clear. But since there is only one example provided for each learning theory, perhaps it would be better for your group to add some elaboration on the examples? For example, the suggestion on using role play (in Constructivism) is quite interesting but I am a little confused like how would you execute the activity of asking students to role play and do a face-to-face interview? It would be better to have 1-2 more sentences (like what your group did in the example of Cognitivism) to elaborate.

@Group 1
I think your group's mind-map is quite clear and informative. With the use of emoji (the smiley face and the frowny face) in classifying the influences , I can easily understand whether it is a good/bad influence. This is a nice little detail I like! Also, the examples given in your mind-map are also quite useful, but there is a spelling mistake in one of the examples of Behaviourism - 'repentance' should be repetition?

@Group 4
I particularly like the example of scaffolding presented in your group's mind-map. The example is very clear and organized which shows us clearly on how scaffolding can be done in a real classroom. One minor comment - it would be better to include the original link to the mind-map  in the blog post as the text in the picture is too small to read.

Topic 3/Creation of a video/animation for teaching a topic:
@Group 1
I think the video is quite fun to watch and I can see your group has made a lot of effort in preparing the video script, filming as well as editing. But I have spotted a few mistakes in the video, e.g. 'demenstration' should be demonstration. It would be better to ask the whole group to review the whole video and spot out any mistakes before deployment:) Also, I think it would be more informative and clear if your group can include a reflection on the development process using ADDIE Model in the blog. Great work guys!

@Group 4
The video is really interesting and fun to watch! I think the use of storytelling (the police, the thief and escaping prison) in starting the video really helps to engage students to pay attention to the video. Also, the explanation on the methods in solving division is clear and well organized. It is also good for the narrator to give a few seconds for viewers/students to solve the question. One minor comment - the text in this blog post is too small to read.

@Group 5
The use of pictures and videos showing illegal roadside dump and solid waste in the beginning of the video are very useful in demonstrating the damage to the environment and the importance of recycling. Also, I particularly like the recycling process of different types of waste shown in the video with the explanation and pictures. As for the ADDIE Model,  it is very detailed and information on how the group developed the video. I have also noticed a new video editing tool mentioned in the post, VSDC video editor, and will definitely bookmark this tool for future use!

Topic 5/E-learning course suggestion:
@Group 1
The e-learning course suggestions in your group are very easy to read. I particularly like that your group has selected the Python course which satisfies most of the levels in the Bloom's Taxonomy. The explanation on this group choice is also very detailed and informative, listing out the levels on the Bloom's Taxonomy and how the Python course meets each of the listed levels. Great work!

@Group 3
Your group has shared some good courses to the class! Out of the five suggested courses, I particularly like the course suggested by Ray. Ray has included lots of pictures to illustrate his points and it is very easy to understand. I have in fact used Minecraft Hour of Code in teaching a group of secondary school students in learning coding and it really helps to grab students' attention (just as explained by Ray). This is a good example of game-based learning. Yet, perhaps your group can add back which course your group will select as a the group's choice?

@Group 4
The e-learning course introduced by King is quite interesting but the explanation on the pedagogical benefit is a bit short. It would be even better to elaborate a bit more on the pedagogical benefit. Also, it is good for King to include some statistics in supporting her e-learning course choice (i.e. "According to Douban, its score is 9.1 out of 10') but I would suggest to add the total number of people who have rated the course on Douban as it is a bit confusing just to say 'More than 60% of the people'. Thanks for the group's sharing!

Topic 6/ Thinking Activity 1 - Critical factors that make e-learning course engaging

@Group 1
I am interested in the two apps your group introduced. When you are introducing the UI/UX of HelloTalk, it is good that your group has included some photos in illustrating your point, and I do think that UI is attractive. As for 英语流利说, I was impressed by the technology used in this app (situational training with AI) which gives personalized and interactive course to learners. AI is one of the hot topics and is transforming the education industry. It is very nice of your group to include this app in your presentation. Also, the similarities and differences section is well-prepared and informative.

@Group 3
Your group's presentation is very graphic as you use a lot of photos of the two apps, Grammaropolis and Johnny Grammar’s Word Challenge, in supporting your comments, which is very nice and clear.  The similarities and differences part is also very well-organized. I am particularly interested in Johnny Grammar's word challenge as it is developed by the British Council, and the quality and QA should be better. Thanks for the recommendation! One drawback of the presentation is that there is no sound.

@Group 4

I think it is very nice for your group to keep the presentation in a very similar style, and highlighting some of the words in different colour (2nd slide) helps to capture my attention to those key points your group wants to point out. However, it would be a bit better if your group has included a short introduction on the two apps, perhaps with some pictures of the two apps as well. Also, personally I think one of the functions in 扇貝背單詞 is quite useful that is the 'Give English news and oral practice' one. This gives the context of the vocabulary and learners can learn how the words can be used.

Topic 7/Mobile and handheld technologies in education

Topic 8/Mini e-learning activity
@Group 5
Personally I think the topic is quite interesting and it is good that your group has brought some iPads to the class and tried to demonstrate how the iPads will be used in a BYOD class. However, I also agree with Matthew's comment that the activity is not as smooth as expected since we couldn't watch the video for the assignment with some restrictions on the iPads. Still, thanks for your group's sharing!

@Group 3
I think your group's mini e-learning activity is well-organized, fun and engaging!  You have introduced a very useful tool, Nearpod to us and effectively demonstrate how Nearpod can be used in real teaching.
There are a few things that I like about your group's activity: first, it is very nice of you to begin the activity by asking us 'What are fables' and give us some examples.
Second, you mentioned that students are welcome to type or draw their answers which I have a sense of autonomy in presenting my answer, and it is obvious that our class was really engaged by your activity. Also, it really helps to engage students by showing some of the students' work in-class.
Third, your group's presentation is even better as you have recorded the activity, as well as included a sample of the students' report and posted them here! Thanks for the great work!

@Group 1
At first, I found the topic quite interesting and wanted to know more about it. However, then I realized that your activity is designed for iPhone users only and I am sorry to say that I soon lost my interest in it. It would be better if your title is more specific (such as 'How to take a stunning photo with iPhone') or you clearly stated this pre-requisite in the introduction.

Still, I think the tips your group has prepared are legit and useful. Also, your group's analysis is very thorough by using different instructional design models in evaluating the activity, including the Bloom’s Taxonomy, ADDIE Model, ARCS Model of Motivation and Gagne’s Nine Events of Instruction. Nice work.
